The opposite is true:

Cartelists raise the avocados as a profitable alternative to cocaine. If avocado demand climbs high enough, the higher price of that alternative crop will naturally bid farmer attention away from coca, shifting it instead towards avocado cultivation.

You might easier admonish that consumer activists BOOST their avocado consumption instead of avoiding them.

it amazes me how people buy into such nonsense. Clearly, supporting the Avocado Cartels would be preferable. That guilt trip tripped over itself.
