I’m 69 and started at Gold’s gym two years ago. It has really helped me with all the previous injuries I’ve had but boy, did it hurt at first. I’m stronger than the spaghetti armed youngsters I work with who are too lazy to work out.

Designated fighters square off, drop the gloves, and go at it until linesmen separate & drag them to the penalty box; usually no one gets hurt.
But for real slam bang old time hockey, goalies fighting each other (How!? They’re at opposite ends of the ice) is a special kind of crazy. And nowadays whenever somebody scores, the goalie goes nuts & smashes his stick against the net and then kicks the net over out of sheer frustration.

I simply claw gripped his larynx (not entire throat) while shoving my other fingers up under his armpit and threw him up against the wall. He was stunned and motionless. I was actually stunned by the look on his face. I gave him one option: Leave quietly or get worse. He motioned his head yes, I let go and he left. I've used that larynx technique a couple other times when hanging at rowdy biker bars. Fist-fighting is for the young or in a ring.
Check out Krav Maga for other nasty painful techniques for older men and women self-defense. You don't have to be in much shape. Just go for the most painful spots and hard. Classes are good for practice, but you can research the actual techniques on the Web.
Plus, pocket stun guns are effective if your State allows them. The most practical are shaped like brass knuckles so the enemy can't knock it our of your hand. Google: Knuckle Blaster Stun Gun. I have two that are legal in California, of all places. You can wear them in the holster provided or hide in your pants pocket. Yes, they have a safety switch so they won't go off accidentally. Forget pepper spray.
That throat grip you refer to is actually taught as a street technique in Isshin Ryu (Okinawan) karate...
