Just as an FYI, McCain’s actions are past day actions now since... well, McCain’s 6 feet under as we speak. And it’s not “twisted logic”, BTW. It’s pure logic. When you denounce one party for something and don’t denounce the other party for the exact same thing, ESPECIALLY if said party was also responsible for it, you’re by definition a hypocrite. Besides, there’s reports coming out that there are still MIA/POWs within North Korea dating back to the Korean War, so what Eisenhower did back then is actually about as relevant today as McCain’s stupidly blowing off the MIA/POWs in Vietnam.
Heck, if we are to use your definition of traitor, we technically ought to label George Washington a traitor due to his deliberately leaving Thomas Paine to rot in France (not that the guy didn’t deserve it due to his siding with the French Jacobins, but even still...).
And quite frankly, I actually WOULD have to examine the background of every past president (or any government official, for that matter) if I’m to not be a hypocrite by denouncing one president for something bad, yet ignoring another’s exact same flaw as the one I just denounced. And that’s exactly the problem, unfortunately.
Either way, at least McCain did NOT sell out his fellow POWs to his captors when entrusted with information by them when visiting them, nor did McCain for that matter engage in a treasonous meeting with the VC in Paris with the explicit intent on throwing the war in favor of his “enemies.” That’s why I refuse to lump him in with Fonda or for that matter Kerry. As bad as what McCain did regarding the MIA/POW stuff, what those two did was several levels WORSE, ESPECIALLY regarding the MIA’s and their families (let’s not forget that if Jane Fonda had at LEAST avoided reporting them to the head of that camp and giving them the information said POWs entrusted to her, had just smuggled them out and delivered them to their COs, even if done anonymously, those POWs would probably have been rescued, heck, may have even given MORE exposure to what the VC did in the mainstream).
So let me ask you this fan boy, did you serve in the military during the Vietnam war? If not then you can not comprehend the hatred we veterans have for your political icon, the honorable John McCain!
