Maybe it is an age thing, but I really do not recall either show (Larry David, Seinfeld) ever getting very political. When they did, it was pretty light and not mean spirited like SNL.

Like Ronald Reagan before him, Voight started out as a bleeding heart liberal... At some point he walked towards the light of day and realized that liberalism, communism and socialism are as evil as it gets.
There’s always hope for the children of today... Some of them will eventually walk towards to light of day as well.
