The Iraq war faceplant damaged the reputation of the press. Russiagate just destroyed it...The paper was signaling it understood there would now be questions about whether or not news outlets like themselves made a galactic error by betting heavily on a new, politicized approach, trying to be true to historys judgment on top of the hard-enough job of just being true. Worse, in a brutal irony everyone should have seen coming, the press has now handed Trump the mother of campaign issues heading into 2020.
Nothing Trump is accused of from now on by the press will be believed by huge chunks of the population, a group that (perhaps thanks to this story) is now larger than his original base. As Baker notes, a full 50.3% of respondents in a poll conducted this month said they agree with Trump the Mueller probe is a witch hunt.

Anyone with a discerning eye knew the Ministry of Propaganda was lying to everyone.
Now it’s clear even to the obtuse.
Boris Badenov sent his wife Natash to perform a golden shower on Trump. That is the real story that the illuminati is hiding.
I’ll just tweak that title a little...it should be called:
“Media-Gate”
Every single story can be traced to the Demorat media’s breathlessly over-hyping enticing bits of information daily, and with this creating ‘patterns’ of inference,... pithily summarizing anonymous sources in what they determined would undermine the truth .... especially on cable news.
. Led by Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon, the song began on a cheery note: This needs to be done by Christmas, I need a freaking ounce of cheer.
Other key lyrics: I dont need a full impeachment, I just need a little fun. Please dont tell us we arent crazy. At least indict his oldest son.
Aidy Bryant later added a line hoping the report needs a true entree, and would prove Trump kidnapped Jon Benet."
Later: We wont ask for much this Christmas, but at least throw us a bone Tell us what the hell is happening, and who the F is Roger Stone.
Also: We dont need a long-ass dock, just a single payback stock...Mueller, please come through because the only option is a coup.
Anybody got a link for the whole video? The whole thing doesn't seem to be on YouTube.. :o(
Yup ... they get it now ...
“The lack of blowback over episodes in which reporters were put in public compromised situations speaks to the overly cozy relationships outlets had with official sources. Too often, it felt like a team effort, where reporters seemed to think it was their duty to take the weight if sources pushed them to overreach. They had absolutely no sense of institutional self-esteem about this.
Being on any team is a bad look for the press, but the press being on team FBI/CIA is an atrocity, Trump or no Trump. Why bother having a press corps at all if youre going to go that route?”
@MZHemingway Mollie Retweeted Peter Heller:
“Was joking about this just today. yes, the WP and NYT won *PULITZERS* for their supposed stellar reporting on Trump’s treasonous activity with Russia. It’s too perfect. PULITZERS. I thought media’s reputation couldn’t go lower than where it was November 2016. Boy was I wrong.”
***Liberals love awards for dishonesty***
I just finished reading this entire, excellent and in-depth analysis and indictment of media malpractice in the Russiagate matter, and shrieked with laughter at how he uses words both like scalpels and like boxcutters — his disgust with the lack of professionalism in journalism infuses this piece, loaded with specific examples and many citations.
So glad you posted it, CreviceTool — I was just about to, when I thought to do a search first!
Anyone with an ax to grind about just how bad-to-the-point-of-evil our media has become, both in general and re the RussiaRussiaRussia! mess, will feel tremendously vindicated by this report.
It seems the NYT has won multiple Pulitzers for getting Russia stories wrong. Walter Duranty's cover-up of Stalin's Ukrainian "famine" (which turned out to be forced starvation) comes to mind.
Then, as now, some claims seem to be "too good to fact-check." By the way, I've only heard Left-wing reporters use that expression.
I was saying this a year ago: Since when do liberals love the CIA?? Since Trump, I guess.
No comparison. There was plenty of evidence of the presence of WMD in the hands of Saddam Hussein.
There is none at all for for Trump’s supposed collusion with Russia.
BTW, I wasn’t decrying the article, it is pretty good in outlining the situation with the media...:)
Except for this...

Taibbi is a lefty,so his trouble with the WMD stuff and Bush 43 was not something I chose to fixate upon ...
Interviews with Iraqi Generals on the front lines - after they were captured when they didn’t retreat from our massive advance.
They didn’t retreat as they figured the chemical weapons would start dropping on the advancing US troops any minute now.
I’m not so sure I get it. How does he mean the media was so wrong about WMD? I assume he is looting to Iraq and how are the media kept claiming there wasn’t any and we really did find some but if it’s the other way around then I’m not sure I buy the whole thing.
I believe he is saying that the media immediately believed Blair and Bush when they said there were major WMD in Iraq, as a justiication for the war there, when in fact very few were found. The left questioned whether there was enough there to justify the war there; and even the right is now coming to see that the Iraq war may have been one of our biggest mistakes, and certainly many wasted lives and expenditures.
He is a bit of a lefty, so his opinion may be oriented more to the left; but the main thrust of his article is the complete lack of journalistic standards today, tracing back to the embarrassment of the press initially "buying" the WMD story instead of waiting for more facts. His comments and criticisms of the media's handiling of the Russiagate thing are very condemnatoryand what a great writer! One pithy or hilarious comment after another.
