Malcolm X and MLK in Dallas...
Formerly Oakland and Grand.
Oakland Cemetery is at that intersection. Buried there are many of the movers and shakers of Dallas from the 1800s-1900s.
I have gr-grands and others in my ancestry buried there. Went with sister and daughter to clean the graves in 2002. The caretaker was openly carrying his sidearm for protection. He said it was dangerous in broad daylight when he was mowing, clearing brush, etc.
Malcolm X, across the street was full of street walkers and drug dealers and users, as well as drunks...at 10am.
Appears the area has gone even further down hill, with a mosque being built there.
I don’t know if it has been a further decline - the Black Muslims may have cleaned up some of the street crime in the immediate vicinity. But it is an area that I avoid.
You may be aware - the “urban planners” are pushing to rip out the connection from US75 - Central Expressway to I45 to force all the through traffic to drive through the ‘hood. Ought to be good for the carjacking businesses.
