Back before the internet, his predecessors were forced to actually get off their duffs, walk from the basement to a news stand, buy one copy each of the sleazy tabloids (anything with headlines containing words like "Aliens!" or "Jackie O Bombshell!" would suffice), plus a scissors & glue stick, and then go home to create their FISH Warrant applications.
