It is bizarre indeed but some just don’t seem to realize that they ARE carbon based. I once remarked to a flaming young liberal who had a computer science degree that it is insane to call carbon dioxide a pollutant because we could not live without it. He thought I was an idiot and started telling me how a person cannot breathe PURE carbon dioxide and live! Apparently he flunked biology. Some don’t seem to understand that the DOSE makes the poison, you can drink enough water to cause death but we don’t call water a pollutant and I have not met anyone stupid enough to think they can live without water.
