H&K used to have an squeeze cocker pistol:

It’s instinctive when under great stress or hurrying for all fingers to contract at the same time.

They found people who’d squeeze the grip to first cock the pistol would often also in error trigger a round when firing wasn’t needed.

Stupid game but if you look at the physiology of it the motion is understandable.

That’s why beginning around 15 years ago or so the great emphasis on “only put your finger on the trigger just before you fire”.

With proper shooter training, the HK P7s
are as safe as any weapons.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Using a "modified Weaver" hold/stance:
  1. with the trigger finger pointed safely alongside the slide,
  2. the strong hand puts the muzzle on target and pushes forward,
  3. THEN (and only then) the weak hand pulls rearward
    • "locking up" the hold/stance ...and...
    • compressing the grip-cocking lever
  4. THEN -- only if the sights are on target and firing is intended...
  5. The trigger finger departs its safe position alongside the slide, and presses the trigger.
Note that, until step 5., the weapon is SAFE -- and, within a millisecond of dropping it, is inert.
~~~~~~~~~

Less well known is the fact that a trained user can disable the weapon so that it cannot be fired with a simple 90 degree twist of the thumb. This "unlatches" the striker, so that the weapon is inert, and cannot be fired. At this point, squeezing the grip-cocker ejects the striker, so it can be stored elsewhere. No need for a trigger lock!
