Internet Collapses in Venezuela with 80% Offline; Twitter, YouTube, SoundCloud Blocked

In the midst of a second nationwide power outage in Venezuela, the vast majority of the country is engulfed in a massive internet outage. The first electrical blackout, which swept across the nation on Thursday, left Venezuela with only two percent connectivity amid the ongoing presidential crisis. Most of the country has been offline since Thursday with limited or no connectivity being reported across large swaths of the South American nation. The NetBlocks Group, a private internet watchdog organization based in the UK, reported on Saturday that 96 percent of the country was offline:

.. On March 4, NetBlocks reported that the Venezuelan government had blocked YouTube and SoundCloud and partially blocked Twitter.

“Twitter image and video servers and platform backends have been blocked in Venezuela from 3:10 PM UTC on state provider CANTV (AS8048) and its mobile network Movistar, as interim leader Juan Guaidó is set to arrive in Caracas after a tour of neighboring countries,” the organization explained. “The restrictions have been implemented as the leader calls supporters to the streets under the hashtags #4MVzlaALaCalle, #VamosVzla and #VamosJuntosALaCalle.”

Well, reality? Maduro intends to kill the opposition. They don’t want any witnesses.

Or it may be there is a move about to be made against him.

And each one (if serving a significant client base sufficiently threatening to the regime) is a perfect target for anti-radiation weapons. Even if not worth a missile, it would draw attention from military ground operations real quickly.

How to turn an old Wi-Fi router into an access point

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-turn-an-old-wi-fi-router-into-an-access-point/

I’ve done this type of thing before. Put the router as a Access point on top of 25’ telephone pole at my show, with homebrew wifi feedhorn antenna I could access it from 4 miles away with standard Wifi card in laptop. My access point was connected to the web, but it could just as easily be an old computer running as a server without the web. I used commercial 6db collinear antenna, but you can homebrew them with soldered together pieces of coax in fiberglass tube or just sealed and hung from stick or tree on the top.

Will try an find one of the old articles that showed exactly where and how to attach the N-connector for the antenna.

Hand held VHF/UHF transceivers can be used to use things like packet radio. The bandpass will not handle high bandwidth data but slower it will.

Depends upon how many targets they have. Yes, you are right rf signals are a target.

Low power, directive antennas and line of sight path makes it harder to target.

Even cell phones when working can be used to identify people.

I remember when I first started using Twitter in 2009, only thing coming out of Iran was Twitter. Young people with smart phones looked like they might get enough news outside to topple the regime. Ultimately it failed, they hired foreign techs and circumvented efforts to hide the GPS and arrested over a thousand young people. Many were never heard from again.

I can still show you the no loner active screen names in my timeline. some were in Iran others not.

What are the liberals going to do when they build a wall with armed guards and start killing people trying to leave?

From a hilltop, the range can be surprising.

I believe you, but can you give an estimate?

Here is the idea on programming, the setup.

https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=136548

I took an old linksys router and made a connection to the RF output through an N connector to outside. Put the router/accesspoint in a weatherproof box on top of telephone pole. ran cat 5 up pole and power up pole to operate it.

It is easy to build a feedhorn antenna from 18” piece of 4” diameter aluminum irrigation pipe with plate welded on the end. Place 1/4 wave stub antenna 1/4 wave length in front of the end plate (I’ll have to refresh my memory for exact distance) but diameter of the 1/4 wave sub affects the length to resonance.

Point I’m trying to make, it is possible to circumvent the system.

Venezuelans were told food is in short supply. So? Ration toilet paper and medicines. So? Government may collapse causing anarchy. So? Power supply at risk and then going down. So?

And now Twitter and Facebook and internet are completely down.

Omigod! Oh, no.! Not that! I’m going into the streets and burn down every building I see. They can’t get away with this!

If you are truly DHS, there is nothing illegal about what I just said.

There are people in the public in Venezuela who are smart enough to do this without help.

It depends upon the height of the antenna and the gain on the omni antenna. 6db omnies are pretty easy. Feed horn antennas (very directive) can probably give 12 db gain if designed right.

Like I said I made internet connection 4 miles from our farm with mine.

He's not brave, he supports the same socialist garbage that Maduro supports.

No military or humanitarian aid should go to this s--thole.
