Real hate and real racism incidents won’t be believed because of one of these incidents right after another. And when they do in fact happen, it isn’t outrage over the incident, but seen as an opportunity to score political points and smear the opposition - they get excited about it, real or imagined, when it is nothing to be pleased or excited about.
The Left needs these street theatre hoaxes to promote its narrative and raise money. Tawana Brawley who’s antics made Al Sharpton famous and rich, the Duke Lacrosse fiasco, the Covington ambush and now the Smollett nonsense. The MSM is compliant and dopey people believe the stories. It will continue because it works for them.

This was a wonderful editorial by Carlson. I wish everyone in America would watch it. I especially like the way he points out that our society requires everyone to lie.
If you don’t lie, you get called a bigot, a racist. You have to pretend that you’re sympathetic, even when your unspoken thought is that the guy’s story doesn’t make sense. Not only that, whoever jumps in and supports him early is a hero. There is never any later retraction, no change in behavior, no learning from the embarrassing revelation that he took everyone for a ride.
In that respect, it’s very much like Orwell’s 1984, where people are required to believe lies, and get punished if they indicate in any way that they aren’t going along with the program. The next day, the “truth” may change, and everyone is supposed to support the new lie as though they never believed anything else.

As has been said often on FR this weekend: Hoaxes like Jussie’s ARE “hate crimes.” They are designed to foment hate against the President, white people, or anyone else the hoax is designed to smear. Hoaxers should face “hate crime” charges, every time.
