That stuff looks expensive. I want cheap food that tastes good, and is bad for me. :-p

Oh, man, I haven’t thought about McDonald’s Steak Sandwich since about 1980. That was a pretty good product, basically a long hamburger on a sort of french roll with onions and A1-esque steak sauce. Interesting idea and pretty darned tasty, as I remember. IIRC, it was more expensive than the Big Mac and Quarterpounder, so maybe it didn’t sell well.

Why not just go to Arby’s for a real sandwich! The swirled pump/rye on a ruben is awesome. They have the grilled steak and onions/mushrooms all the time too. Plus its the only place other than asians that have horseradish available.

“Why not just go to Arby’s for a real sandwich!”

Did they start using real meat?

The ones they had back in the early 80's when I worked there were a
bear to clean...dozens of parts that had to go thru hot wash, rinse and
then sanitizer baths. They had a tray with stencils on it of all the parts
that was used for drying and to make sure that you had everything
washed before you put it back together.

Must disagree on with you on the fries. McD’s fries are the only thing they have worth eating. Still the only fries I know of you can and should eat without ketchup!

Why not Arbys? because there is a Schlotzsky’s nearby!

I miss the good tenderloin sandwiches. The ones that were thin and made of real pork tenderloin. Now only a few places I know have them on the menu and they’re more like a pork fritter or a disc of compressed mystery meat.

If only I could find an Arby”s. They’ve closed all the nearby ones here.

Wonder why they don’t do a black shake around MLK day.

Why not just go to Arby’s for a real sandwich!

There's a time and a place for a real sandwich, but the McDonald's steak sandwich was a unique thing, not so much a steak sandwich as a super hamburger.

Would it be cultural appropriation if a non-Irish person bought one and drank it? (/sarc)

I have been able to find good ones in the midwest, usually in mom and pop places. If you are ever in Hannibal, MO, check out the Mark Twain Restaurant.

“That stuff looks expensive. I want cheap food that tastes good, and is bad for me. :-p”

Just like the rest of us. :)

Seriously though, look at the explosion of popularity of “gourmet” burgers. The American public is tired of the same old thing and is willing to pay for a better burger.
Even when McDonald’s copied the Hardees Thickburger it was a disaster, dry, salty and overall bleh.
