The police didn't knock first? I assume that they did. I also assume they announced that they were police officers before kicking the door in.
Did you not read the article and the other stories about this incident? They served a "no knock warrant", which is SOP for Law Enforcement these days.
Wrong on both counts. No knock. And they supposedly announced police as they were busting the door open and shooting the dog. As if anyone could sort those things out in that kind of mayhem. That's the PD version which has been released. Of course, the occupants will never get to tell their side. Why not just call them and tell them they were outside with a warrant and that they should come out?
