Looks like she and CNN would make great targets for one of the major libel suits soon to be launched on behalf of the libeled teenagers. Their school, its authorities, and the three KY bishops also must be included. Good case, likely to go to SCOTUS.

Absolutely. They can pin it down to the user’s local ISP connection and geographic area. And if there were ever any postings from a phone to that account they can track it back to the very tower it came from.
This is why I have to give Domain owners and webmasters a lot of credit for respecting privacy. They can all do this.

They can track it down to the very device serial number. Google does it all the time as part of their Gmail security system.

Warfare expert duped by robot? Story is bunk. They mean to tell us AI is so advanced it can edit video footage to give the political bias it so desires, and fool the ‘experts’?
Of course. Unless the user is careful to use the one terminal for basically that one task only, and hide it through VPN (and other means such as single-use OS jump drives) they can track it down using all sorts of metadata. Not only the ISP and IP address, but any cookies for email accounts or other social media... and if the owner was fool enough to send in a warranty card or even have bought the terminal using a credit card they can track the serial ID or the name on the warranty card or tech support account - assuming of course those were accessible (a company like Dell for example wouldn’t likely turn over customer info without an official government or other cooperative request).
VPN masks IP.
But will it hide your MAC address and your device code?
MAC address can be changed manually.

Yes it can. But connection aside, the question is can Twitter really claim they don’t know where the account came from. With registration requiring a confirmed email address it’s not that hard to get the traceable information from the owner of the email server. Outbound emails contain a lot of information.
