The devil is in the details. We all know that walls can be climbed over or tunneled under, and aince $5.7B won’t complete the border it will also drive traffic to other areas. A serious beef-up in border security to include multiple forms of electronic monitoring, fencing/walls near population centers, and the deployment of more rapid response security forces might be a good compromise. You could even include more “doors” and detention centers for those willing to formally request asylum (instead of trying to sneak in), along with the staff to process them and the tools to return those who are not accepted. Drones alone won’t do it. But a combination of tactics and techniques to push traffic into areas where it can be interdicted may be fair if it’s the right combination. Trump always said it won’t be 100% wall - he said some wall, some electronic, some manned areas.
Correct. We need all of the above. Walls, drones, people.

I think it will be fascinating (and illustrative to our points here as conservatives) to see how complaints, crime, and illegal traffic go up at unprotected areas as the border wall pieces are built and funnel illegals into other areas.
I regret the rise in crime that will be inevitable in places that the illegals get funneled into, but I think we have to go through that phase.
It might even have an overall saluatory effect on getting other pieces built as those newly affected areas may push for their own section of the wall to be built.
