The feral employees are not an immediate problem. The feral contractors probably are. In another 10 days this shut down is going to start hurting pretty badly for lots of people and will threaten the economy. Everybody involved knows that.
Trump is gambling the howls against pelousy are louder than the ones against him. He is betting the left rank and file, not the hard core base, will want to know why it isn’t reasonable to fund the wall. They see the advantages for them.
Yes, sad as the sentiment is, people are thinking “it’s only $5 billion, WTH?” Pelosi is picking the wrong fight. I don’t even believe she has public opinion on her side wrt securing the border. I think most people want a secure border. And if it is walls and fences she objects to, she should counter with a lot of money for electronic surveillance systems.
She’s blown it big time by rejecting the DACA compromise. She gave that win to Trump, who can campaign on “I offered to extend DACA, the Dems rejected it”. The only way for her to save face is for her to come over the top, which actually plays right into Trump’s hand. Now we have this bit of SOTU idiocy which likewise makes her very weak.
