ON the other hand, if he is a military veteran, it will make little difference in the narrative if he never went to Vietnam. We aren’t even positive that he identifies as a “vietnam vet” or just a “vietnam era vet”; the media could be messing up the reporting.
ANd even if you could prove he was lying about being a “vietnam vet”, the left would just say you were denigrating an actual soldier anyway.
Meanwhile, the media and the left don’t seem to care that he lied to them about this story, with at least two different false narratives.
I’m also 66 and know a couple my age that actually put boots in Nam but not many...he may have entered when Nam was still not officially over but being a vet from that period and being a Nam vet are not the same things...outside chance he was assigned to clerk part of the pull out chores.
Thanks to all for the information posted here and your service to our country.
Heres a short film Nathan appears in. Promo video says he served in Vietnam and became an alcoholic afterwards at age 20.

Also says he can pray cancer away.
He says he was in the Marines 72-76. Paris treaty was January 1973. This smells...I hope it is followed up on by someone who knows more.

Check this out, he says he served the year after Vietnam ended.
I am also 65. If I remember correctly, my draft number was 68. The draft ended before I graduated from high school in 1972. My draft rating was 4F (bad eyes), so I wasn’t really worried, anyway.
I doubt this guy was ever in Vietnam while in the Marines.
Interesting here: Article calls him a Vietnam-era veteran. Different than Vietnam veteran.
So media just lied? Typical.
The comments of the ignorant lefties, at the link you provided are something else.
Not one called the ‘reporter’ or this guy Phillips out, for the his lies.
And, agree...what the heck is a Vietnam-era Veteran? Wouldn’t he just be a Veteran, if he didn’t serve in VN?

He was in Sang Bang, Dang Gong, lot of places.
Here’s some information on Marines in Vietnam from the Marine Corps history of the Vietnam War, in 21 volumes, published by the United States Marine Corps’ History and Museums Division, created from 1968 to 2009:
“On 14 April 1971, III MAF redeployed to Okinawa, and two months later the last ground troops, the 13,000 men of the 3d MEB, flew out from Da Nang.
Although Marine combat units were no longer in Vietnam, Marine advisors remained to assist the South Vietnamese.”

So, it appears that the last Marine Corps forces left Vietnam in June of 1971. Only ones to remain were the advisors and the embassy guards. It seems unlikely that Phillips would have been either an advisor or embassy guard at the age of 17.
I know I’ll be 62 and I never even had to register for the draft.
Was he even a MARINE?
I also had a cousin who was shot in 1970 near Dinh Binh.

Thank you for finding and posting that.
I’m sure all of the Fake News (cough cough CNN, et al) are getting right to this same info that you were easily able to access. /s
Assuming 1974 as the cutoff he would have been ~19 if his current age is correct. So on the very edge of possibly being there. Say enlisted at 18 and then boot camp, etc .., but then I’m not sure when they stopped sending new troops over.
They may be stretching it to say that he was a veteran of the Vietnam-era.
Just meant he was in the service at same time or era.
MSM ran with Vietnam veteran to feed the narrative logical Native American war vet harassed by MAGA punks.
Government shutdown has this close now. But anyone can get his service record.
There are more than 70 million former military records for veterans stored at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The records are available to the public through the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act.
The general public can access military personnel records by completing Standard Form 180. Some of the information that must be given includes the name of the veteran, the service number or Social Security number, the branch of service, the date(s) of service and the date of birth. It has been our experience that the dates of service are helpful but not necessary.
The completed form can be sent via mail or fax to the records center. Although more detailed information is available to next of kin and other authorized parties, only a limited amount of information can be released to the general public. Typically, the information released includes rank, dates of services and where the individual in question was stationed.
Response time varies, but it has been our experience that requests are typically returned within 10 business days.
Just like the school shooting surcivor tag. If youre five buildings over perfectly safe, youre a surcivor.
Isnt anyone born up to the end of the war an era veteran? We all lived though it, right? Using the broad definition of veteran.
It's a category the government has for classifying veterans. Benefits vary depending on when one served, I believe.
You could be WWII veteran even if you never saw combat or left the US, and you can be a Vietnam era veteran even if you never went to Vietnam.
Thanks for the info.
I’d imagine there are researches on this, as we type.
