Ultimately, finding an optimal tax rate for the super-rich is a moral and political issue as much as an economic one.
Last week, when 60 Minutes aired an interview with newly sworn-in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the freshman New York congressperson caused an uproar with what, by Washington standards, seemed a rather immodest proposal. Asked whether an expansion of public investment in green technologies would require raising taxes, she cited history.

I’ve been trying to tell these useful idiots for a long time. If you succeed in installing a genuine Marxist (communist) government in the U.S., you will be among the first to be destroyed, along with the professors, teachers, administrators, authors, reporters, activists, clergy, artists, poets, actors, rock stars, sports stars, corporate leaders, politicians, etc. Off to the gulags (or bullet to the back of the head) to anyone and everyone who could possibly be a threat to the regime. Basically, the wealthy, professionals, political activists (even the useful idiot class), and anyone who thinks for himself.
Occasional-Cortex should’ve gone into porn where she could get all the attention she CRAVES.
Poor people: NO problem.
Rich people: BIG problem.
It's a true story, and it simply points out what happens when you raise tax rates too high. You simply stop the creation of wealth, which is the engine of any economy.
It is not moral to over tax earners. It is immoral.
We get paid for our time, whether salaried or contracted. Taxation takes that money. In other words, taxation is taking our TIME. It is a form of slavery.
So when you win the lottery, and get that million dollar award, the government will keep $700,000
Then the state will take its percentage (of the million) leaving you with about $100K.
My father told me one November, 1959? - 60? that he was taking no more work until after the New Year started. I asked why?
He said, “Who takes on the liability that comes with work to make a $1,000, when you will only keep $90 of it?
(Top rate was apparently 91%)
Start with Soros?
As Jordan Peterson points out, anyone making more than $32,000, is among the WORLD’S one percenters.
Tax the people who own the MSM the corprtist rinos. In the last election the only economic class to vote Democrat were those making over 100k and the more they made the more they voted Dem. We created a whole new generation (apparently) of rich libs by lowering their taxes. They now deserve to pay it. Make pay in taxes all of the money they are making from importing cheap labor Democrats.
Not exactly. The 70% is only charged against income above a certain level, not on all income.
Not that’s it’s a good idea...
It will get support because they will be exempt. Also I fell Soros is backing her.
“Once you have eliminated the ultra rich, where will you get the tax money to fund your snowflake Utopia?”
If you taxes them that hard then maybe they would change course and support conservatives instead of stabbing us in the front like rich Democrats and also stabbing us in the back like corporatist rinos are doing. Then we could repeal the taxes provided they change their ways and it wouldn’t go that far.
How about we abolish the ultra stupid instead.
Would there be anything wrong abolishing the ultra-left? Time to get started on that...
“Lets start with George Soros, Bezos, Steyer, Sergei Brin, Bill Gates ...”
I don’t think they have enough smarts to know they suggest fleecing the financiers of their movement.
The ultimate result of Communism is a mountain of dead bodies.
Over 1/4 of Cambodians were executed by their Communist Government - they didn't have enough bullets to kill them all.
They’ll start at the top and then work their way down.
They do it to business as well.
In Florida and Kentucky (probably many other states also) you have to pay a tax on accounts receivable. Yep, a tax on what you have not even been paid.
Keep in mind also that AR are NOT all profit. A large portion of AR goes to paying the cost of being in business.
Think of it. Your cost of the product and providing it may be 90¢ of every dollar you get paid, yet the state makes you pay tax on your expenses and profit, then taxes your profit again when you get paid. Nice racket.
PS: You also pay an annual tax on your equipment - over and over. Your desks, computers etc ad nauseum.
I second the motion to abolish George Soros, Tom Steyer and Jeff Bezos.
