Pelosi disinvited Trump from giving his SOTU initially citing security concerns. Then Pelosi's undisclosed plan to Afghanistan with a congressional delegation of seven members, and numerous other family members totaling a party of 93 traveling on the taxpayers' dime was cancelled.
The assistant Secy of Defense for legislative affairs -- with a few exceptions -- has to sign off to military airlift support for congressional delegations (CO/DEL) . But, the president can intervene. As commander in chief, he has authority over the military. In a later OMB memo, all congressional delegations are now prohibited from using "government owned, rented, leased, or chartered aircraft" without the approval of acting White House COS Mick Mulvaney.
According to her press office, Pelosi tried to fly commercial but the State Dept updated its security threat assessment, deeming it to be more dangerous because of he decision to make the trip public. Citing these security concerns, the delegation canceled the trip. One stop included a visit to US military personnel in a war zone, so the speaker can't go without military assistance.
We could not find another instance where a president denied particular members of Congress their CODEL request. It's also unprecedented that a president would alert the public to CODEL travel plans to a war zone. According to Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill, raised the State Dept's threat level assessment. There is precedent for speakers preventing particular members of Congress from traveling overseas.
According to retired Rear Admiral and CNN analyst John Kirby, lawmakers were temporarily denied CODEL requests to war zones during Obama's tenure due to sequestration and security concerns from military officials. Though, Kirby noted, the ban applied to both Republicans and Democrats and did not single out a particular member of Congress, as Trump did before his administration issued a blanket ban.

Federica and Nazi are two peas in a pod. I knew at the outset, the Brussels stop wasn’t to go to NATO HQ. She would have had no legitimate reason to visit there without the expressed permission of the Administration.
Makes me wonder if she REALLY intended to go there. Nobody in their right mind would bring grandkids to Afghanistan!!!
There will be a lot of private lobbyists following them in their own jets, ready to make many lucrative side deals. As promised by Nancy for their support, I imagine.

(Reuters) – A fund of offshore hedge funds run by two members of VP Joe Biden’s family was marketed exclusively by offshore firms controlled by Texas financier Allen Stanford, charged by regulators with an $8 billion fraud, the Wall Street Journal said.
The Bidens $50 million fund was jointly branded between the Bidens’ Paradigm Global Advisors LLC and the offshore Stanford Financial Group entity headquartered in Antigua, and was known as the Paradigm Stanford Capital Management Core Alternative Fund, the paper said. Stanford-related offshore companies marketed the Biden fund to investors and also invested about $2.7 million of their own money in the fund, the paper said, citing a lawyer for Paradigm.
Paradigm Global Advisors is owned through a holding company by the vice president Biden’s son, Hunter, and Joe Biden’s brother, James, according to the WSJ. Paradigm’s attorney, Marc LoPresti, who represents Hunter Biden and James Biden, as well as Paradigm, told the paper he did not know which Stanford entity invested the roughly $2.7 million. The San Francisco congresswoman has apparently taken to flying in style. And not just any style but military charter style, according to e-mails released this week. Pelosi’s staff has allegedly been “berating” military officials to get the best planes possibly for the speaker to fly across country, according to e-mails obtained by the government watchdog group Judicial Watch (you can read all the emails on their site) and first reported by The New York Post.
“Taken together, these documents show that Speaker Pelosi treats the Air Force like her personal airline,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton in a statement. “Not only does Speaker Pelosi issue unreasonable requests for military travel, but her office seems unconcerned about wasting taxpayer money with last minute cancellations and other demands.”
Pelosi allegedly demanded that the military provide nonstop flight service when she flies home to the Bay Area. But that’s not all. The emails show Pelosi demanding police protection on government planes. She even has a particular plane that is her favorite. What is the plane of choice for a Speaker of the House? Well Nancy Pelosi prefers to fly in Gulfstream’s G-5, made famous by Jay Z and 50-Cent rap videos. “It is my understanding there are no G-5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable . . . The speaker will want to know where the planes are,” a Pelosi aide wrote in one of the e-mails to the military.
In another email the aide wanted one of the G-5s for a House delegation while they were already being used for senators and cabinet members. “This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset speaker,” the e-mail said. Got into a discussion about this with a guy in the local "chit chat". So I searched for any one of the several articles I read about it the day the trip was cancelled.
Could NOT find any mention of the 93 people. Figured I was going nuts. Then figured I'd come to FR and get a link, brilliant!
The first article that mentions it has a link, so I go check out the article. It has been scrubbed. It doesn't mention anything about the extra people!

Codel (plural codels) is an abbreviation of congressional delegation., government-paid trips abroad, designed to give lawmakers first-hand knowledge of matters relevant to their legislation.
How many of Pelosi’s family are members of congress? And if they are her delegation and are hired to work for her and are going to be paid for by taxpayer money, isn’t that nepotism?
This thing really stinks as using taxpayer money for a joy ride to Europe and the middle east for nothing but a few days of Hummus, Manakeesh, Grilled halloumi, Falafel, Tabouleh, Moutabal/baba ghanoush, or Fattoush. All at government expense. Sounds just like the trip Michelle took to Japan with the whole family at an exuberant price. My how these liberals are greedy.

This is a more reasonable excuse and one she actually provided. She got caught trying to use free government airfare to take a vacation to that area with her family using military security to protect them and Trump denied it. She could have traveled civilian airlines but it would have been at her expense and without the security she would have had landing under military oversight possibly even at military bases. She’s always been a liar and thief.
