After more than a year of planning by university administration, students and show producers, “Hamilton” announced on Dec. 21 — less than a month before opening night — that it was relocating the production to Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré, the cultural center about five miles away, to avoid the threat of union unrest and campus protests over rising fees. On Dec. 27, crews came to remove the sets that had been in place for much of the month. Three days later, all that remained were the light post banners proudly trumpeting a show that no longer was coming.
“We have a breakdown,” Barrios says, describing the collective reaction to a move that left many at Teatro UPR reeling. “It was a very hard time. Some people cried. Some people don’t believe it.”
After all, Miranda announced mere weeks after Hurricane Maria that he intended to bring “Hamilton” to Teatro UPR. Ultimately $1 million was pledged to rebuild the theater, which suffered massive damage in the storm.

Guess you have never lived thru a massive hurricane.
I didn’t see it, but I decry it the same way I would if there were a play or movie about George Washington that portrayed him as black, Latino, female, or Asian.
It was a non-starter for me.

No. I hated it.
Having a black man play Hamilton is not the matter (although the PC precepts behind it forcing that decision are annoying). That doesn't matter, no more than having someone like Kathleen Battle singing Madam Butterfly matters (I don't know if she has). Talent is talent.
Rather, the music of Hamilton was just 2+ hours of dull, pop-radio, hip-hop schmalz. Every song sounded the same. Hip Hop is to music, what high fructose corn syrup is to nutrition. A little more than a small dose, and you start to feel nauseous. Two hours of exactly the same choreography also got very tiresome.
We went and saw Jersey Boys last night. Now that was fun!
It’s not that, most people do not have to deal with the massive corruption that is going on there. It’s been over a year and a half since the hurricane and there has already been billions sent over there. Is there not a single adult on the island who says Gee, maybe we should get these people under cover.
Are there no trees on the island? Is there no way to get prefabricated metal roofing there. Anything has to be better and safer than blue tarps.
