Love Howie, but, as a Bay State native, I think he has it backwards. “Normal” people do not come here to go to college. Most of the students who flood the state’s many colleges are left-wingers. They heap scorn on the working-class “townies” but often decide to settle here. In short, other states export their moonbats to Massachusetts. Every crazy policy imposed by Cambridge pols and officials is largely driven by transplants. The natives who live in the less affluent sections of the city do not support the boutique issues pushed by the wealthy transplants who live there.
So California has some competition?
Howie went to college out of state. I went to UMass/Amherst and Boston University and grew up in a college town near Boston. I’ve known plenty of these people who come here to study. Many are arrogant, elitist moonbats. I believe Howie also grew up in Maine. No one knows more about Bay State politics than Howie, but he’s wrong on this one.
“Doesnt it sometimes seem like almost every sanctimonious jerk in politics and the left-wing media has some kind of connection to Massachusetts? “
Yes, like Congressman Adam Schitt whose parents “migrated to California” and settled here in Danville. But honorable mention should go to Baltimore, MD, “birthplace” of Nazi D’Alesandro (Pelosi), Baltimore’s “Miss Lube Rack of 1950” who came to SF to “continue to lube the country” and Babs Boxer, “Ms. Call me Senator Please” who shed NYC for Marin County, CA decades ago.
Our problem for the future? The fact that we're battling our own decades long apathy about actually getting involved. We have ceded public education, the entire entertainment industry, government and (pseudo/quasi) "Christian" denominations to liberals, simply because that was the easiest thing for us to do.
Now we're all concerned about the future. And to save our future we're somehow expected to overcome the above?
My fear is that President Trump is merely a temporary respite from the inevitable. My fear is that the baby boomer generation in America was like a small child that was corrupted and spoiled from birth. We all know that such a brat cannot be rehabilitated.
“So California has some competition?”
Please, California is what it is today, thanks in no small measure to the “migrants” from Massoftwoshitts.
Did those same out-of-state moonbats leave Massachusetts once they started working because they didn’t like the taxes and property prices then move to New Hampshire, turning it from one of the most conservative states to moonbat north?
If our Republic is to survive, Liberalism must be understood for what it really is: Its not a political party, form of government, or anything recognizable to a healthy mind. Liberalism is a disease, an incurable disease of the mind that is highly contagious among the feeble minded and is now spreading among our countrys feeble minded at an epidemic rate. As with any disease, one cant reason with this disease, negotiate with it, or treat in a manner other than how one would treat any other incurable disease.
Clearly, the majority of Massachusetts voters have long supported the most depraved (and simultaneously most self-righteous) politicians in the country—going back at least to the Kennedys.
They call these transplants Massholes from what I hear. I pity the poor Live Free Or Die state natives who’ve been colonized by the Leftists from their southern border. Many of these people who settle in Mass. after college don’t mind the high taxes because they earn good money at the tech companies, hospitals/medical practices and research institutions that grow up around our universities. They also come from money in many cases and so can afford the expense of taxes, fees and high cost of everything.
It’s the same where I live now since I’ve left the immediate Boston area. There are many wealthy Leftist transplants who push all kinds of initiatives, a homeless shelter and many other things, that are not in their expensive neighborhoods but downtown where us ordinary folks live. They hire lawyers to run anyone out of town who buys a parcel in their area and has plans they don’t like. They are condescending, abusive, hypocritical, and consider any opposing view to be hate speech. I loathe this crowd.
Indeed, I'd venture to say that BECAUSE we're surrounded by statists of every stripe - left and right - we possibly have a better appreciation for liberty and why it is important to fight for it when you've got it. Further, at the risk of sounding pompous, there are actually some pretty cool things in these areas: Manhattan and Boston are pretty awesome places, the diners in NJ are top-notch, and a drive I once took in San Luis Obispo along the coastline was one of the most beautiful drives I ever had.
I heard of people in the 1930s and 1940s in Nazi-occupied territories fighting the enemy, getting captured, and then upon escaping not running away but going BACK to their home and fighting. To be sure, we're not at that point in the US and I'm not putting us on the same level as those heroes...but I'd like to think that a few Deplorables in occupied territories probably have more impact on the margins than people think.
Will our states go Red in 2020? Maybe not. But then nobody thought Trump could turn PA Red. Ya gotta believe.
True, but the transplants who came here for college and stayed have had a big effect.
From wikipedia: “Massachusetts is the home of the Kennedy family, and routinely votes for the Democratic Party in federal elections: currently all representatives and both senators are Democrats.
The rural and suburban towns and cities, as well as the South & North Shores, are generally more conservative than the rest of the state, but more liberal than the country as a whole. Places like Cambridge, Brookline, Newton, Somerville, Arlington, Amherst, Northampton, Provincetown, Boston and the islands are considered to be the most liberal cities and towns in Massachusetts.”
____
All the most liberal places listed are associated with inflow of residents to universities or people who buy pricey coastal properties (Provincetown and the islands). Further, the type of Democrat differs between the working class and the chi-chi set with money to burn (who are often transplants). Of course, that’s true most anyplace.
Ben Sasse. Harvard.

Or go to ‘cheese shops’, lol....
Yes, DoodleBob, we in blue states know the nature of the Dems far better. We know they are like junkyard dogs who will not honor a deal. Maybe that’s why Trump, as a native New Yorker, has been so successful. He’s lived among them all his life as well.
It would be nice to be in the majority. At the gas station recently, I was behind a car with Trump and other conservative bumper stickers. I told the driver I liked them, and she said it was her boyfriend’s “Trumpmobile.” The local wing-nuts become irate when anyone dares to say they like Trump. They demonize you and call you racist and all the rest. The level of anger and abuse from these individuals can be extreme. There’s a local store owner who I read has a sign in her window that Trump supporters cannot enter. She throws them out if they enter with a MAGA hat or such. Some of them are really quite insane and out of control.
I quit local social media because I got tired of their abuse and unwillingness to acknowledge indisputable facts (such as that Warren is not American Indian). It’s not worth my time.
‘then move to New Hampshire, turning it from one of the most conservative states to moonbat north?’
aided by the busloads that traveled over the line on election day, signing up to vote, declaring that they ‘intended to live in NH’.... btw, how did the new restrictions work out this past election? do you think it worked?
Yes. We all know who goes to the wine and cheese shops that were in Harvard Square the last time I was there on foot years ago!
Before any further bills are passed by the Mass legislature, all congress critters should be forced to live in Chelsea for a month. See the third world hell-hole they have allowed to flourish, as just one example of what liberalism has done to the country.
Then the next month, they can move to Columbus Ave.
