Several Republican senators introduced legislation Friday to permanently end government shutdowns by creating an automatic continuing resolution for any appropriations bill, allowing the federal government to remain open even when budget agreements break down.
Currently, when Congress fails to meet a deadline to pass a government funding bill, the agencies which remain unfunded shut down. Often, Congress chooses to pass what's called a continuing resolution (CR) to delay and extend the deadline to pass funding bills, which keeps funding operations at their current levels.
CR funding would be reduced by 1 percent after 120 days, and would be reduced by another 1 percent every 90 days "until Congress does its job and completes the annual appropriations process," according to the release announcing the bill.
The bill was introduced by a group of Republicans representing the ideological spectrum in the caucus, such as hardline conservative Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, Utah libertarian Sen. Mike Lee, and moderate Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski. The bill is sponsored by Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, who has introduced the legislation every year since he was elected to the Senate in 2010. Influential Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Financial Committee chairman, has also signed on.

Let me guess; the GOPe CUCK’s tied to the Chamber of Commerce are doing this.
We really need to get rid of these CUCK’s.
Not just a no spending increase make it a 5% permanent reduction in all spending each time a automatic CR is kicked in.
Too bad Flake and Corker are no longer there to support it.
These are the @$$holes we send to Congress. Just keep kicking the can down the road.
This guy Mike Lee has been mentioned as a possible SCOTUS. Stay clear of him.
Alternative Headline:
We can’t and won’t do our job, so we’ll just ignore it.
The dumb voters will still keep electing us.
I thought the U S Senate went home until at least next Mon?
Cuckolds.
I called my Representative and requested he introduce a bill requiring my checks always be accepted as payment for my bills regardless of the amount of money I had in my checking account.
What is wrong with these people???
“What is wrong with these people???”
They are our enemies and collaborators with pagan totalitarian fascists. Not overly complicated.
As I argued yesterday in another post, when push comes to shove the CPUSA already has a 74-26 majority in the Senate.
Alternate title; Several senators of the GOP, otherwise known as the party of inaction, have an idea to take away the last tool in the shed to prevent an important issue from being kicked down the road once again.
