A lot of folks saw that as a trial run he had no real intention of winning. ;)

Obviously, popularity is the Number One prerequisite for ANY Democrat to aspire to higher office.
Sometimes spending enough money around will substitute for popularity, but there still has to be a good PR team in place, to generate at least a plausible degree of “popularity”.
All the other characteristics are completely flexible, but don’t be smarter than the “money people”.
O’Roarke / O’Malley ticket could help bring back the apostrophe!
