Right. As we see in this country (Obamacare) when the Left really wants something they just ram it through and say with a snarl, “It’s for your own good.” The fact that the Germans are ‘talking’ about a Mosque-tax means it will never happen. It will allow the Muslim soon-to-be-majority time to organize against it.

The amount is 8 or 9% (depending on state) of the income tax paid, not of the whole salary. I entered 100,000 euros salary in https://tools.wiki/en/gross-net-calculator-calculator-germany/ for Bavaria and got an income tax of 28,647 and a church tax of 2,291.76. The net pay was 53,900 so the total tax and forced "insurance" rate was 46.1% plus 13% on the employer.

As I understand it, the first to collect money based on income (or an “income tax”) in Germany were actually the Churches. When government also jumped on the income-tax band-wagon, the efficient Germans reasoned, why should 2 institutions be doing the same thing? Just have one collector (government) which will then fund the churches with the funds

Since at that time probably 95%+ belonged to some church, it just seemed natural. (Even today probably 80%+ of adults are baptized Catholics or Protestants....though they never go to church).

This is only for LICENSED churches, which is not every cult that pops up (eg. Scientology is not licensed).

I do not know if Buddhists or Hindus are licensed—but given the tiny number of them in Germany, I doubt it. With the large number of Muslims in Germany now, it only seems natural (to German ways of thinking) to license and fund—by income taxes of Muslims—Mosques.

Americans need to keep in mind too that a lot of social welfare, services for the poor, and housing is done by the Churches. Without the strict separation of Church and State, it’s the way things work in Germany.
