Sorry but the Iranians have fortified the shores of the Persian Gulf with state of the art Chinese made shore to ship stealthy missiles ( which by the way feature an American designed guidance system thanks to an export license granted by the Clinton Administration). While it is true the mad mullahs would have to be insane to attack American ships, an attack by those missiles combined with asymmetrical forces would be a real threat to those big blue water ships operating in the narrow shallow Gulf.
Also reentering the Gulf at this time very well may be more than bravado. Netanyahu may be near the end of his rule. He faces a potential criminal indictment and an election in April,2019 that he is not guaranteed to win. Netanyahu will not leave office with the Iranian existential threat to Israel and the Jewish people intact. Would not be surprised one day to learn that those ships went into harms way as part of a “strategic plan” to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat and the conventional threat in Syria. Over 15,000 brave young American sailors are at risk. Hopefully this “plan” will go well.
