Donald Trump is the richest president in U.S. history – but as he gears up for a re-election campaign, the real estate magnate could end up facing off against someone even wealthier.

The budding 2020 field of potential challengers includes no fewer than four fellow billionaires.

The wealthiest of the pack, by far, is former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The media mogul and gun control advocate’s net worth is estimated at nearly $52 billion, according to the latest Forbes 400 Richest Americans list.

He will be 77 in February, which means he would be 80 when he took the oath of office. Plus he’s been the “Republican Mayor” of New York City. How does he explain his “political philosophy!” Answer: He doesn’t have one.

Steyer is too obnoxious, toxic and too poor(at a net worth of only $1.6 Billion, he simply isn't rich enough for his money to make much of any difference in a presidential campaign).
Bloomberg is entirely another matter altogether. With a net worth of a staggering $52 Billion, and a known willingness to spend unfettered amounts on his campaigns, he can literally buy his way into being a top contender in literally any race he wants.
This is a guy that could spend $10 Billion on a presidential campaign if he wanted, without batting an eyelid.

Steyer’s $1.6 billion’s nothing to spit at, but Bloomberg’s $52 billion is impressive, and he might well make a real dent in the RATs’ party hierarchy, but he’s still largely unknown outside NYC. His money - a very large chunk - could sure change that.

Both Reagan and Trump were Democrats for significant periods of their lives. (Reagan was even a union leader). That never stopped either of them from running and winning as Republicans.
Bloomberg has been a life-long Democrat. His temporary membership of the Republican Party was merely a flag of convenience operation for him to become mayor.
