On some level that makes sense. But then consider the old days, back when police officers didn’t have a union.They were paid very little, and a lot of cops had to find work on the side. They were vulnerable to bribery.
Bribery of Congressmen is enough of a problem now, with the bribes disguised as “campaign contributions”. I suspect that if their salaries were reduced, you’d see even more of that.

How about making illegal, campaign contributions from anyone but actual living individuals, instead of unions and corporations, for profit or otherwise?
