Filmmaker Tyler Perry and musician Kid Rock paid off hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Walmart layaway bills to help strangers have a happier holiday season.
"I was trying to do this anonymously but due to some circumstances, y'all know nothing stays secret these days," Perry said in a Twitter video, giving the addresses of two Georgia Walmart stores where he paid off the bills.

"@tylerperry Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville. Merry Christmas and God Bless You!" Kid Rock tweeted.
"Today, our store got a call from Kid Rock saying that he wanted to pay off all of our customers' remaining layaway balances! His gift is bringing incredible joy to about 350 families in Nashville and we're happy our store could be a part of it. #skylineproud #KidRockrocks," the Dickerson Pike Walmart wrote on its Facebook page.

I would love to do this.
Kid rock, while rather abrasive in some of is music is a wonderful guy.
I would love to do this too but at this point it would be a few $20 dollar bills.....
meanwhile the city of Nashville pulled the invitation for their Christmas Parade away from Kid Rock because he called a b*tch a b*tch...
Very good point! Kid took the high road
Very awesome of them both to do this!!!
nice gesture but kids today need much more truth than they do toys. Excess “toys” for adults and kids are part of the reason the USA is going down the drain - too much distraction from things that really matter and I bet all sorts of other stuff not just toys for kids got paid off in those lay-aways.. but i suppose it made the two en feel good and lots of people happy - momentarily.
Well aren’t they special. The whole idea is to be anonymous, you know, a secret Santa. They do it for that “look at me, I’m so generous” headline
Kid Rock “rocks”. So does Tyler Perry. Nice to see someone trying to do something for others without a Hillary Clinton-type press conference.
Naw...you are dead wrong.
Mr Perry wanted to stay quiet, but a wal mart employee let loose the info to a journalist for money.
How do I know this?
I asked him about it Saturday at his new house being built three miles from my house in Douglas co. Ga., where I have been working for the last year.
Mr Perry is a regular visitor to the job site, and is an awesome, down to earth guy.
This generous act on his part is a drop in the bucket compared to his usual philanthropy, which remains secret.
On top of his generosity to all of us working on his new house, not just at Christmas either.
Meant to ping you to #11.
No, you’re dead wrong. No way it gets out unless you want it to
No good deed goes unpunished. Or uncriticized on Free Republic.
Ok....so the dude who built one of the biggest filmaking empires in the world. The dude who bought fort mac and turned it into one of the biggest production venues there is. The dude who creates billions of dollars of productivity for his local hometown...
This dude wanted the 300 grand or so of walmart lay aways he paid off to be known because he needed the publicity.
Alrighty then. Whatever.
Nope...sure doesnt.
That must be some house you are working on. Several years ago I saw an appraisal on his house in Atlanta. If he’s upgrading it must be just short of a Taj Mahal.
Da Kid
When was the last time you heard of a leftist celebrity doing this act of kindness?
JoMa
Well, you have to admit that putting one’s name on everything (Tyler Perry’s This and Tyler Perry’s That) is not exactly consistent with a desire to avoid publicity.
It was still a nice thing to do, anonymously or not.
