Youve been a sharp political prognosticator over the years. So can I start by asking for a prediction. What will happen in 2020 in America? Will Hillary Clinton run again?
If the economy continues strong, Trump will be reelected. The Democrats (my party) have been in chaos since the 2016 election and have no coherent message except Trump hatred.
Screechy Elizabeth Warren has never had a snowballs chance in hell to appeal beyond upper-middle-class professionals of her glossy stripe.
To win in the nations broad midsection, the Democratic nominee will need to project steadiness, substance, and warmth. Ive been looking at Congresswoman Cheri Bustos of Illinois and Governor Steve Bullock of Montana. As for Hillary, shes pretty much damaged goods, but her perpetual, sniping, pity-me tour shows no signs of abating.
Has Trump governed erratically?
Yes, thats a fair description. Its partly because as a non-politician he arrived in Washington without the battalion of allies, advisors, and party flacks that a senator or governor would normally accumulate on the long road to the White House. Trumps administration is basically a one-man operation, with him relying on gut instinct and sometimes madcap improvisation.
Most Democrats have wildly underestimated Trump from the get-go. I was certainly surprised at how easily he mowed down 17 other candidates in the GOP primaries. He represents widespread popular dissatisfaction with politics as usual. Both major US parties are in turmoil and metamorphosis, as their various factions war and realign.
Does the deep state exist? If so, what is it?
The deep state is no myth but a sodden, intertwined mass of bloated, self-replicating bureaucracy that constitutes the real power in Washington and that stubbornly outlasts every administration. As government programs have incrementally multiplied, so has their regulatory apparatus, with its intrusive byzantine minutiae.

That’s it. No need to read further...
bttt Camille Paglia
Just read it over lunch. She may be a liberal lesbian but she is intellectually honest and calls ‘em as she sees ‘em, which is always worthy of respect. Plus, I seldom find anything to disagree with in what she says.
I would note her mention of my representative, Cheri Bustos, who has clearly been on the ascent recently and who I fully expect to see run for higher office someday. She’s aware Trump carried her district and does a good job of the ‘retail politics’ but joins in the DNC talking point chorus instead of realizing the best way for democrats to win is to join with Trump rather than being the perpetual resistance. They won’t - but just think of how different things would be if the Democrat House voted to fully fund the Wall...
LOL!
Warmth. Yeah we need that. Got to have ‘’warmth’’.
“running?’’ That old broad can’t even walk.
“...but just think of how different things would be if the Democrat House voted to fully fund the Wall...”
They could create a real horse race in the 2020 election campaign and all it would required is turning back the calendar 20 years or so when most Dems sounded just like Trump does today on the subject of illegal immigration.
I wish Paglia was my aunt or neighbor.
I would enjoy long talks over a latte or cabernet.
The interview ended abruptly and much too soon. She's wrong about lots, but she's a fireworks show of ideas and opinions.
Well ... she can sort of walk. She just needs a little help. It takes a village to help Hillary walk.
"A discouraging word for you, Hillary."
Because R and D are meaningless terms anymore, just look at the Wall, the end of Obamacare and the rest of the great accomplishments of the late great Republican congress.
They are branches of the Uniparty, and whichever branch figures out how to work with Trump to accomplish MAGA which is what people actually want, will win. Or would you prefer more Paul Ryan, Jeff Flake, Susan Collins, and McTurd?
Yep, she IS running. To the liquor cabinet!
I think a great many women want Trump to win again.
They wont vote for him, and they wont/cant admit this, but deep inside they want that strong, confident father figure.
I enjoy reading her. She isn't as agreeable in person (she likes her privacy, and who doesn't), but she is one of those unique people who speaks knowing exactly how her words will appear on canvas.
Paglia could really be useful in #2020 to drive wedges into the progressive -- her assessment of #Karamela is dead on, and if Bernie runs, it gonna look a lot like #2016 when he was disumrupted by dems Amish not once but TWICE har har har...
