I didn’t always agree with him politically, but I always felt he was sincere and honest (for a politician). He served his country honorably. And he and his wife, First Lady Barbara Bush, had class, something which 2 out of three of his successors did not.
Reagan had to get the RINOs on board. They paid lip service to Reagan’s beliefs but they never took them seriously.

I remember his approval rating was at 90%. Right after he won the Gulf War. No other president before or since ever hit that high of a number. Yet he lost his bid for reelection. Voting Americans are very fickl and have short memories.
His two judicial appointments to the Supreme Court were a miss and a hit. He gave us the execrable David Souter and the stellar Clarence Thomas.
