I registered during the Reagan years. It must’ve been legal because my teacher told all of her students to register. I don’t know how many did. At the time there was no motor voter registration. In Jackson you had to drive downtown amongst all the big buildings including the Old Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, City Hall, etc. We thought we were important peeps to be so civic minded as high schoolers. Hah. I don’t recall if we had to show our drivers licenses. I’m sure I told the lady my age. She just added me to the registered voters from my house. These days, I doubt I would let my girls drive around that area of Jackson without a police escort.

I believe it is unlawful to register to vote under the age of 18, even back then.
