Georgia 2018: Abrams Owes more than $50K to IRS Democratic Candidate For Governor

Says She Worked Out Payment Plan With Feds

Democrat Stacey Abrams owes more than $50,000 to the Internal Revenue Service and about $170,000 more in credit card and student loan debt, according to personal financial disclosure documents the candidate for governor released this week.

The documents show Abrams, a former House minority leader, has a net worth of about $110,000 that includes a recent $150,000 advance for an upcoming book on leadership.

The campaign said in a statement that Abrams deferred her tax payments in 2015 and 2016 because she was helping to pay her family’s expenses and that she is on a payment plan with the IRS for the $54,000 she owes.

Abrams spokeswoman Priyanka Mantha said the candidate “has faced financial challenges while working to support her family” and that the experience will help her inform her decisions in the state’s highest office.

Abrams has highlighted the string of small businesses she’s started in her race to succeed a term-limited Gov. Nathan Deal. She’s also come under scrutiny for drawing a $177,000 salary in 2014 for her role as a part-time chief executive for the voter-registration project she started.

Most of the roughly $520,000 in assets she reported, though, were tied up in her Atlanta townhouse and her book advance. She had about $11,000 in cash and bank accounts.

Beyond her mortgage and the IRS debt, Abrams’ liabilities include $96,000 owed for student loans during her time at Yale Law School and about $76,000 in additional credit card debt.

I am amazed she is qualified to run?

Wow Stacy cannot manage her own budget, but she believes she can manage a State's budget?

Between this, the gun grabbing, raise taxes, taking down Stone Mountain, etc...

I would be surprised if Georgia elects her. The State of Georgia economy is booming. If she gets in, then expect a slow down.

Oh and in the link below Stacet actually blames her debt on racism and the gender wage gap.

As a black woman she averages about 150k a year. But she doesn’t have enough left to pay off school loans, taxes, or credit cards.

$50,000 to the Internal Revenue Service and about $170,000 more in credit card and student loan debt.

If she got elected, that $220,000 would disappear in a hurry. She’s take dirty money as fast as Andrew Gillum does in Florida. And no one would go after them because they’re black.

I’m shocked someone hasn’t just given her the money already so the issue goes away during the campaign. She could say, paid the debt.

But you are right, if she wins, the debt disappears fast. In fact a GoFundMe account would raise 1M+ so she could have extra money to take a vacation.

Abrams was never going to win. Sandblasting Stone Mountain and banning AR’s are not winning issues in GA. GA is a Republican state. Kemp will be the next Gover.

This is good information. My son and wife have cancer so I am taking care of them. So I can just blow off my taxes now??? Cool.

What is it with these crooks running on major Party tickets for governor in both Florida and Georgia - and even being within reach of winning?

Is it because one can't criticize them for their criminality or total incompetence simply because they are a preferred minority (black)?

This Political Correctness is what got us 8 disastrous years of Barack Obama in the first place!

I have worked in financial services industry for my entire career. Someone with these financial problems would be unlikely to be able to get a job as even a bank teller, due to the risks posed by her debt and the temptation of handling money.

I have to believe that there would be many ways to motivate a governor, using cash under the table.

Sounds like a situation ripe for extensive corruption.

I guess it is just as well that she is not writing a book on financial management.
