New York City Police Commissioner James O’Neill said Thursday that law enforcement officials are treating the suspicious packages containing possible explosives sent to high-profile Democrats this week as “live devices," not “hoax devices.”
“This is something that should be taken seriously,” O’Neill told reporters at the press conference in New York. “We are treating them as live devices."
“As far as a hoax device, we’re not treating it that way,” O’Neill added.
His remarks came after some conservatives, including radio host Rush Limbaugh, suggested that the bombs could have been part of a hoax or false-flag operation.
Officials said Thursday that they are treating the suspected bombs as “live devices” and “suspected” explosives. At the same time, they offered little details of the ongoing investigation, refusing to answer even whether they had concluded privately one way or another that the devices were actually meant to explode.
The FBI, along with state and local officials across the country, is spearheading the investigation into, so far, 10 suspicious packages in total.
The packages, all similar in appearance, were addressed to former President Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, billionaire philanthropist George Soros, CNN, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), former Attorney General Eric Holder, actor Robert DeNiro and former Vice President Joe Biden.
All were discovered between Monday and Thursday of this week. In almost all of the cases, the packages were intercepted by authorities before reaching the targets. Officials in New York cautioned Thursday that the investigation is in the early stages and ongoing, and warned that further packages could be found.
“We’re doing our best to make sure if there are any out there, we identify them quickly,” O’Neill said.
Authorities have sent all 10 packages to the FBI’s laboratory in Quantico, Va., for further testing.
“We are working quickly to process and analyze relevant information,” said William Sweeney, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York field office. “We will continue to do so for as long as it takes.”
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) again described the attempted attacks as an act of terrorism.
“It’s absolutely terrorism because it’s an effort to use violence to make a political impact," de Blasio said, echoing language he used the day before.
Idiotic meaningless headline of course you have to error on the side of caution. You have to treat them as live.
When the discussion turns to whether the bombs are fake or not, it is well on it’s way to dissapearing from the news cycle.

It is OK to treat them as the real deal until it is determined that they are entirely fake. Then it is not OK to treat them as the real deal anymore. It is not OK to lie about what they are because that erodes trust in police officials.
They’re all duds until one is not.
Mmm. Actually it’s a good survival strategy to treat a suspected bomb as a live device until you can conclusively prove otherwise. Assumptions otherwise can lead to a bad day.
I agree that these are possibly, even probably hoax devices based solely on the fact that not one of them functioned. The images, including x-rays that I’ve seen published conspicuously lack any sign of a triggering mechanism that one would associate with a package bomb. But let’s wait and see where the investigation goes.
I will be surprised if they don’t make an arrest by the weekend. The sender comes across as a moron. To appear like a moron requires one of two things: either a brilliant actor or an actual moron. Since there are many times more morons in the world than brilliant actors, Occam’s razor dictates that we are dealing with the genuine article. Whether said moron is on the left or right remains to be seen.

Absolutely... While “treating the as live devices” they are also destroying the evidence that they are fake.
I am sure they all had the “potential” to explode(contained some quantity of explosive) but were they designed to explode and just because they had a POS digital clocked taped to them don’t mean squat.
The bomb folks treat them all as deadly and right fully so which is what the FBI talking heads are saying, not that they were deadly not deadly whatever.

No, ANY “device” MUST be “treated as a live device” until proven otherwise. What we need to know is what the tested devices ultimately turned out to be......I wonder why that piece of news hasn’t been revealed???
I KNEW the minute the Deep State FBI got their hands on them, rather than a local bomb squad, we would never hear the truth about them; They will spin, obfuscate and lie to whatever suits their agenda at any moment.
It would take me about two minutes of examination to tell you for certain whether there was an actual explosive or deflagration substance inside them, whether there was an operational igniter/detonator as part of the device, and what the effective blast radius of the device was, if indeed they were capable of such.
But a a whole day later the FBI won’t say anything definite.
Initially the reports were that they contained black powder.....
But officials seem to be backing away from that claim....
It may be an inert powder.....
Even if it was black powder the entire device looks like it was built by Wiley Coyote..... it just needs an “Acme” stamp on the side
