Update: Amid a rash of negative publicity, the main contractor handling the influx of unaccompanied minors from Central America, abruptly scrapped its plan to buy a resort-style hotel in Weslaco and convert it into a 600-bed residential center for the children.
The nonprofit BCFS Health and Human Services said Wednesday said it would not spend $3.8 million in nongovernment funds to buy the hotel because of misinformation reported in the media.
