White House chief of staff John Kelly and national security adviser John Bolton got into a heated, profanity-laced shouting match outside the Oval Office on Thursday, according to multiple reports.
CNN reported that the two men clashed over immigration policy in the wake of a government report that found a record number of migrant families illegally crossed the U.S. border in September.
Bloomberg reported that the incident led some White House aides to wonder whether one of the senior officials might immediately resign in anger.
Neither individual is expected to resign, however, and President Trump is aware of the dispute, Bloomberg added.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill about the reported encounter.
The incident Thursday underscored continued portraits of a White House rife with turmoil and infighting.
Kelly has been subject to numerous reports that indicate his relationship with Trump has frayed, though he has remained on the job for more than 14 months and the president recently invited a reporter into the Oval Office to discuss his support for his chief of staff.
Bolton is relatively new within the administration, having taken over as national security adviser in April.
The Department of Homeland Security data published earlier this week showed 16,658 family members were arrested by Border Patrol agents last month. It was the highest one-month total on record and an 80 percent increase from July.
The Trump administration has pushed immigration enforcement as a key issue, and stirred controversy when it initiated a "zero tolerance" policy earlier this year that led to the separation of thousands of migrant families at the border.
In an interview broadcast Sunday, Trump refused to rule out re-instituting the practice of family separation.
In recent days, the president has turned his attention to a so-called "caravan" of migrants making their way toward Mexico and the U.S. from Central America. The group is said to have swelled to around 4,000, with many of its members seeking asylum.
Trump has threatened to cut off aid to Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala if those countries do not prevent their citizens from heading to the U.S., and has suggested he may deploy the U.S. military to the southern border to stop migrants from entering.

This is more of CNN bullcrap.
“...he has remained on the job for more than 14 months ...”
With all the press crying out that the WH is in disarray and disorder, it has cemented in my mind that the press and truth have no relationship. With General Kelly running the WH, I am certain it is orderly and efficient.
Here’s the transcript of the actual dispute:
Bolton: “It tastes great!”
Kelly: “I say it’s less filling!”
etc.
If you work somewhere that apathy reigns, you probably wont see this. If you were somewhere that there is passion, competitive fire, and personnel at the peak of their profession, you’ll witness confrontations.
I’d have less faith in these two if one of them threw up a stack of papers and cried. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. Grown arse men are capable of having a heated discussion without taking a pss on the whole thing
anything that comes from an anonymous source is probably a leak to begin with, especially when it happened right outside the oval office. if it wasn’t approved for release, and doesn’t further the president’s agenda, it’s goddam well a leak.
That’s probably what this was about. Bolton saying we had to stop the mob and Kelly pulling out all of the Posse Comitatus excuses for why we couldn’t.
16,000+ FAMILY MEMBERS.
That sounds like the MSM spinning the crap out of a very bad statistic.
16,000+ Illegal Aliens?
16,000+ Invaders?
16,000+ Criminal Aliens?
Nope, ‘family members’. How to lie through your teeth without really lying.
I’ve never had any co-workers get into a shouting match in the real world /s
I'm guessing Kelly was on Team America, and Bolton, having ome Derp State DNA, was against.
“and Kelly pulling out all of the Posse Comitatus excuses for why we couldnt.”
Probably accurate. And also Kelly is wrong. First as a Marine, he should be well aware that Marines are not included in that. The 1920s saw them posted on US Mail trains to stop robberies.
Also, ALL of the military is charged with repelling invasions. That is job one.
The military... not just meant to invade far away places where we have no national interest.
The problem with this article is it focuses on the disagreement without telling us exactly which side ( Bolton and Kelly ) favors WHAT POLICY.
Anybody who is not in favor of strict enforcement of our immigration laws DOES NOT HAVE my support.
“Personally, Id like to see President Trump deploy an entire division from all branches of the military to the border and basically put it out there that if you cross the boarder, its bombs away. Too bad, so sad, you were forewarned.”
Agreed. If a pack of Americans mobbed the Mexico border they wouldn’t hesitate to shoot them all. When did we turn into such pussies?
IF TRUE, the issue of it being reported as “multiple sources” should be a concern that there remain people, multiple people, who are actively engaged in contacts in the media.
Yup. Nothing burger. It’s a good thing they’re yelling at each other instead of being passive.
RE: CNN reported that the two men clashed over immigration policy in the wake of a government report that found a record number of migrant families illegally crossed the U.S. border in September.
You read the entire article and you don’t see what Bolton or Kelly are for or against. It’s pretty much a gossip article without substance.
Bolton was placed there because he wanted someone as bull-headed as he is, who can check-mate Kelly. Not a big deal.
Even I know stopping a foreign force from crossing a US border is a military problem, not a law enforcement problem.
Did the Soviet Union use police to stop Germany when they crossed over the Polish/Soviet border?
I think not.
“Multiple sources” = A CNN intern leaked it to NYT, who cited it and leaked it to the WaPo. They’re each using each other as sources
So now gossip is hard news
