Musician Kanye West told reporters at the White House on Thursday that a "welfare mentality" led him to accuse former President George W. Bush of racism after Hurricane Katrina.
"I was very emotional, and I was programmed to think from a victimized mentality. Of a welfare mentality," West said, sitting across from President Trump in the Oval Office.
West, wearing a Trump campaign hat, said the concept of racism was used by Democrats to control voters.

Wow, she looks different. I saw her in concert in the 80’s and she could still belt out the tunes!
She had an incredible voice...and wrote a few really great songs.
I was a senior in HS when the Airplane first hit.

The Blacks belong in the Republican Party, where they historically were after the Civil War.
When West made this ridiculous assertion it caused me to see the light, the light about that world class boob, GWB. Bushs response, mistakes were made, reflected horribly on him and all of us who had supported him. Bush is truly a stupid individual.
I bet. Tempted to take a dip into the DU sewer just for some laughs.
Yes it is. West can play a really important role in stopping the toxic drift among blacks towards a ‘kill Whitey’ racial identity politics exemplified by the BLM. If this trend and the rats embrace of MS-13 for the same purposes with Hispanics and the number of low assimilation unskilled third world immigration is not stopped ethnic warfare is almost assured in the US within a few decades.
My comment was sincere. For Kanye to openly talk about bipolar from the Oval Office may be a first. I hope Kanye stays positive and healthy. If he can be released from the bonds of liberalism, I hope he can escape the bonds of the Lardassians.
Kanye West and Jim Brown are highly successful, prominent African-Americans, who are risking being, er, blacklisted, by their community, to stand with PresidentTrump for freedom, optimism and economic opportunity.
Courageous guys.
Brown in particular has been very active in the civil rights movement for many decades. His support of Trump is amazing.
Of course. Since they can’t outright call him an Oreo or an Uncle Tom or House N****r. Although CNN came pretty close!
Yes, those in the media who are panning his “rant” have obviously never heard a creative person speak before.
George W. Bush is not stupid. I’ve met him, heard him speak to a small gathering, take lots of questions, and then mingle and chat afterward.
He’s not stupid at all. Very bright, articulate, knowledgable and self-confident.
Calling him stupid is giving him the benefit of the doubt. If I accept your assertion then let me amend my statement. GWB is an intelligent ringleader of the Uniparty who stabbed the conservatives who voted for him in the back.
That’s an entirely different kettle of fish!
I liked some of what President Bush did as President. But his Uniparty roots damaged his leadership.
We’re very fortunate that the Obama obscenity gave us President Trump — just as the Carter flop gave us Reagan.
I guess it is nice when a mouthy professional athlete or entertainer gets on a big stage and roots for your side.
But if you give a crap about West, don’t you gotta pay attention to Kapernickle, or what ever his name is, too?
I don’t think I heard that, while watching Fox News. I became a Republican because of Dubya. Glad to hear Kanye’s explanation.
On Laura Ingraham, one guy said he spent several hours with Kanye, after the White House meeting. Wish I could remember his name, because I’d be looking for his articles about Kanye.
Watched the bit Fox covered yesterday....hope Kanye is reaching a LOT of Blacks (and the self-hating Whites that unwittingly support the Plantation meme for Blacks). He talks a lot - was glad when the President addressed Jim Brown to give him a chance...wonder when Soros will sponsor some anti-Kanye ‘protests”...
If it turns out that blacks endorse the Republicans, there will be a large, very public meltdown.
His family seems to be handling it by declaring, “he’s sick, needs help, needs a huge”.
Candace Owens indicates she stays in touch with Kanye .... says she also talks to the president all the time. Flipping the black vote was a plan, implemented and seems to be coming along very well.
