McCain had a commanding personality, and Lindsey was looking for a leader, someone to respect and admire and follow.

Graham had been a lawyer in the Army and saw McCain as someone more truly military. That's my take anyway.

You don't cling so closely to somebody if their hold over you is purely a matter of blackmail. You have to really believe.

Others may not see McCain in that light, but I think Lindsey definitely did.

Graham was an Air Force Colonel....and JAG officer.
