I have the contrary take - I think Avg American rolls his/her eyes and says “OH, COME ON!!”.
On point...IF this really happened, according to one where it did happen, you never forget, you remember details, dates, times, what he was wearing, smells, violence, everything. The fact that this serious offense might occur and you not know the details is so far from reality to suggest compliance with the incident and regret later on according to my friend.
She was emphatic, this is fake, and had nothing to do with sex, or violence against women. She is offended that they have taken something very personal, and perverted it for political reasons. Diminishing a tragic and personally life changing event and relegating it to political expediency.
Women everywhere should call this out for what it is, a political attack on an adversary, to delay a vote, with the goal of installing a more liberal judiciary, more to their liking, and forestalling a confirmation until after the Mid-Terms.
I fear she is right.
