If you are interested, there is a very good wiki entry for Roy Moore. It's pretty long and you might or might not want to read it all. But go about 2/3 down in the article and there is an excellent recap of Moore's election results in all his statewide campaigns. (Actually, it looks like the link takes you to those election result tables)

He had very solid support from about 1/3 of Republican voters. Enough to get on the supreme court a couple of times, but he did very poorly in statewide elections after that. He probably kept most of his most loyal supporters, enough to win a special election, Republican primary, but not enough to win the statewide senate vote in the general election.

Yes, not enough support for Moore when the senior Senator from AL was actively campaigning against him in favor of a progressive Democrat. Democrats pull their flawed candidates over the finish line. Establishment Republicans destroy them.
