The Fabians were the first to hit our shores with a collectivist mindset

I guess some French Revolution commune survivors did too

Former members of the Committee for Public Safety of whatever they called those juries of death

The big influx of commies to our shores was when we went from Dutch Anglo French Spanish stock to Eastern European stock

That’s where it emanated from...and Germany was where it all got written down

You’re both missing one very important group that brought socialism with them, one whose impact on American political history always seems to get overlooked. And that’s the largely German refugees from the failed Revolutions of 1848.

A lot of them settled in Wisconsin and they were instrumental in founding the Republican Party at Ripon. They are often credited with securing the nomination of Abe Lincoln. A number of them, like Carl Schurz, held important positions in the Lincoln administration. Some were acquaintances and followers of fellow ‘48er Karl Marx, whose Civil War writings are solidly on the side of the Union.

Current mythology, as Dinesh D’Souza’s ridiculous “history” demonstrates, pretends that the ‘48ers and the Radical Republicans didn’t exist, despite the fact that they controlled the party and Congress right up through the end of the Grant administration. Presidents Lincoln and Johnson had to be wary of them, Grant was one of them.
