Cat 1 can put your power our and do a little damage in places. ALL wind speeds in hurricanes are measured by the strongest in a SMALL area around the eye. The entire storm area is not blowing at 100-140mph.
Used to be they didn't even NAME anything without a closed circulation. Now a semi rband of thunderstorms containing a few blasts of strong eind gets a name. Then they track it till it hits Great Britain!
I'm not dismissing Florence. It wasn't as bad as the NWS wanted it to be, but bad enough to flood people out. BUT they had hyped up warnings for almost a week! They were wrong about wind but-and it hurts to say- right about rain and flooding. It's the hype people remember. Its the hype that makes people stay and not evacuate because previous hyped up storms weren't 'monsters' so all will be the same. They won't.Words mean things. And reporters holding onto street signs while someone is hosing them and throwing lawn furniture-contradicting why those affected SEE outside cause the complacency and subsequent deaths.

They compared the potential for water damage to hurricane Harvey, 15 inches to 51 inches. Harvey dumped trillions of gallons of rain. A year’s rainfall inside a couple of days.
Media hyperbole for ratings and to sell a false narrative about Trump and man made global warming.
Concern for those who lost life and property by the event was blown way out of proportion.
