Veteran journalist Bob Woodward claims he has boxes of recordings and documents to back up the accounts made his explosive book, Fear: Trump in the White House.
In an interview with CNN host Anderson Cooper on Wednesday night, Woodward said he recorded almost all of the interviews he conducted with current and former Trump administration officials for his new book, which President Trump and the White House have repeatedly sought to discredit.
The deal was I would interview somebody, they would be a confidential source, Woodward told Cooper. I know who they are, they're describing specific events.
Often there are diaries or notes or documents supporting it, the journalist added.
Woodward, the reporter who rose to fame for uncovering the Watergate scandal, said that several times during interviews with current and former officials that the subject would request to go off the record, which Woodward said he refused to allow.
"A couple of times people would say 'I wanna go off the record,' " Woodward said. "And I said 'no.' "
"In every case, maybe except one, said 'ok, I'll tell you anyway on deep background, Woodward said.
"When somebody looks at this in 20, or 30, or 40 years, boxes of recordings and documents, they will see that this was very carefully done," Woodward continued. "I can argue with a straight face that an ardent Trump supporter would read this and have to pause. Because whether you like Trump or don't like Trump, it's a management issue."
The president has repeatedly lashed out at Woodward over the book in the past several days and has called him a "liar."
The White House on Monday called Woodward's work "reckless and would not rule out the possibility of a lawsuit.
Woodward's book reportedly sold more than 750,000 copies through its first day of release this week, the most for any title in Simon & Schuster history, according to the 94-year-old publisher.
Why does this keep happening?
So let’s hear ‘em.
If Trump was a Democrat, the FBI would storm Woodward’s house at 4am and take the tapes.
We obviously won’t hear any of thase “boxes of recordings”, nor how closely they actually match up with what’s in the book.
“I’ve got a ton of documentation. No, you can’t see it. Maybe in 40 years.”
Woodward hopes to get another scalp for his trophy case with his fairy tales.
Hey woody, you know what you can do with your book.
The hate Trump media is very receptive to delusional people. A credible journalist would ask to see and hear the tapes.
Everyone interviewed or WH employee ought to give Woodward freedom to release any recordings that Woodward may have of them. That would be more revealing than the stream of denials.
What a pompous ass to imagine that this Kitty Kelley-quality dopey wisp of a book will be studied decades from now.
Because “I hate Trymp” and “I hate Conservatism” is an industry.
It’s a VERY lucrative industry.
Career going nowhere? Losing priority in the media? Girls don’t think you’re ‘cool’? Scared witless about ‘getting older?
Sure... just slam the President and his supporters... VOILA instant attention, instant ‘coolness’, etc.!!
It’s all exaggerated if you’re familiar with the way they treat facts on CNN This is no surprise to anyone. In their alternate universe if somebody says trump is impatient or got mad about something it becomes that he’s a raving lunatic who should be removed from office.
Woodward has boxes of recordings.
So does Omarosa. And we’ve heard some of those... big whoop.
Woodward has never been known for truthfulness. He is a propagandist - and a good one!
“it’s a management issue”
Trump’s career has been a wildly successful management success. Suddenly he’s been a failure, huh? Ok, Woodward, whatever you say.
33 , 45 or 78 RPM ?
Woodward, with the Democrat Party & Media scum wind at his back will sit atop the Amazon.com best seller list for the next few weeks or so.... and then he, like all his hate Trump cohorts will disappear into Never-Never Land...not to be heeded again!!! He will soon join Wolf & Omarosa in the never heard from again group of losers!!!
Recordings need boxes? What, are they hauling 70’s tape recorders around in 2018, lol?
Liar.
It's really amazing. He says Mattis and Kelly both lied when they denied saying the things attributed to them in his book. But unless his recordings include Mattis and Kelly themselves saying those things in their own voice -- as opposed to recordings of other people claiming/i> Mattis and Kelly saying those things -- there's no possible way he can know who is lying, and who is telling the truth.
He's either completely unacquainted with why hearsay is generally not reliable, or (far more likely) he ignores it because it helps him sell books.
All can be selectively edited.
IMHO Woodward has written fiction.
