Four years ago a seemingly invincible US senator came within a percentage point of losing his seat in an unexpectedly close election. Mark Warner was pretty moderate as far as Democrats go, a good fit for a state, Virginia, that had drifted out of the Republican column in the last two presidential elections and just elected a full slate of Democratic statewide officials a year before. But midterms are when presidents and their parties get rebuked, and Warner, a telecom millionaire who had once been tipped as presidential contender, took his support for granted. The Republican, lobbyist Ed Gillespie, was supposed to be hopeless, but he nearly claimed what was supposed to be a safe Democratic seat for the GOP.
Texas has been solidly Republican for a lot longer than Virginia has been Democratic, and by a wider margin. But that makes the fact that Ted Cruz has only a single-digit lead over his Democratic opponent, Beto ORourke, all the more remarkable. Polls suggest Senator Cruz is in trouble, and if the overwhelmingly Republican character of the Lone Star State counts against that, the likelihood that 2018 will be as bad for the GOP as 2014 was for the Democrats throws the contest up in the air again...

Well, we’ll find out in about 55 days. But, don’t misunderstand. I’m not saying that all Republican women hate Trump, but it’s enough to make a difference in a midterm election. Oh, by the way, there are Republican men who hate Trump as well. But fewer than women.
Ahhh, excuse me ..BUT I’m a GOP Hispanic woman and I don’t believe your statement...back it up baby with proof!! Or stop spewing fake crap!
Cruz is going to win. LOL. I suggest backing away from whatever it is you have ingested.
“The Texans in this forum are always bragging on how their state is perfect and that the other 49 states cannot possibly measure up to their standards of conservatism.
Well, they better not screw up this election for President Trump. Instead of bragging, they should probably take care of business in their own state before it turns blue. Austin is probably about as liberal as Portland, OR these days and it’s spreading.”
And Mr. Adam’s what has your wonderful state contributed to the conservative movement! Ted Cruz will win this election! Texas has the same problem as all your other southern border states do, millions of hispanic voters!
Good! Because we can’t afford the Texans to go wobbly on us. So go get Cruz re-elected and come back to brag then.
“Lots of Beto signs in my moms neighborhood (Lake Highlands) in Dallas when I was there the past few days. Only a few for Cruz. It has me concerned”
Last I heard the signs do not get to vote!
I know that’s the case where I live in California. I grew up living near Ray Hutchison (Kay Bailey Hutchison’husband). Everyone in the neighborhood loved him, and he educated a lot of us kids on politics. It’s hard for me to see the Beto signs in our neighborhood.
Texass GOP complacency will eventually bite them and they will get a blue win statewide. With maybe 40% turnout in a presidential year its only a matter of time until a motivated D will sneak in a win..
I dont think its going to happen this cycle, but Ds are motivated and Cruzs behavior in 2016 almost certainly wont help his cause.
They don’t, but it’s a switch from when I grew up there. There were lots of Beto ads on TV too and none for Cruz.
How about knocking it off with the Cruz bashing. Trump is supporting Cruz. ALL of us who want to advance Trump’s conservative agenda are supporting Cruz.
.
“Good! Because we cant afford the Texans to go wobbly on us. So go get Cruz re-elected and come back to brag then.”
I am assuming you are from Connecticut, when you guys get rid of Blumenthal then we can talk about bragging!
You are correct but the time to get him would have been the primaries. Trump promised to do that at one point iirc, but Cruz has been a loyal supporter since the election. Much more so than that little cuck Rubio for example.
Lets see what happens when Trump comes to Texas...my guess is they'll have a public reconciliation and Cruz will bend the knee.

I’m not the one doing the bragging but let’s hope that Texas comes through for Trump. It seems that you Texans have some work to do. While you all have been bragging, the leftists are making inroads on your state. You need to fix that!
And while you’re at it, you can knock off the FReeper bashing too.
“They dont, but its a switch from when I grew up there. There were lots of Beto ads on TV too and none for Cruz.”
First of all Cruz supporters are not going to put up signs this early as they do not want their cars keyed or houses egged! Highland Park is not what it used to be either, just another liberal part of Dallas, of which Austin, Houston, and San Antonio can be regarded as democrat counties! It is the other some 240 Texas counties that will go for Cruz!
Sam, my FRiend....don’t throw stones at, or lecture us Texans, without first fixing your own back yard.
Are you willing to move from your blue state, to our red state (two Republican Senators, a Republican Governor and we voted for Trump) to help ‘fix’ things? ;-)
I sure see a LOT of CT, NY and other blue state license plates, here. THAT is one of our biggest problems, with staying red....the libs coming in and trying to turn TX into the mess they left.
“Im not the one doing the bragging but lets hope that Texas comes through for Trump. It seems that you Texans have some work to do. While you all have been bragging, the leftists are making inroads on your state. You need to fix that!”
You have not heard me bragging one bit about Texas and the elections, I better than you know that within a few years Texas could be a blue state like it was for generations!Just don’t think it will happen this year! This so called Beto guy is so left that he will make Wendy Davis look like a hard right winger!
Well let’s make sure Cruz gets re-elected then. We owe it to President Trump. I know that Cruz was a bit of an ass during the 2016 election but he’s supporting Trump and MAGA now and the Texans should ensure that he is re-elected.
Yes, it won’t be the Texas I knew. Spectator is not conservative any more. They have always been anti-Trump, and they don’t care much for his supporters, either.
