There are a lot of people that will think with the rain slackening for a day or so, that the event is over and will get on the road to return home.

I think there will be a lot of road closures due to these rising rivers and stranded travelers.

I like a high clearance vehicle for just this reason — you never know what you are driving into.

Des Moines, IA, had a bunch of nasty flash flooding at the end of July. A prominent local sports guy drowned in the street in an upscale neighborhood. Ever since, my wife wants a friggin’ Range Rover, the big one. Wades 3 ft of water, but what a pain! Her mother will have to buy it for her.

Flood Warning Cape Fear River...

* Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage by tonight and
continue to rise to near 62.4 feet by Tuesday early afternoon.
* Impact...At 64.0 feet, Several thousand acres of land and hundreds
of structures on both sides of the river will be flooded. Water
reaches the under-clearance of the downstream railroad trestle.
Downstream about 2 miles, the river will spread to a width of
approximately 1 mile.
