Crankyweatherguy is saying that the models are starting to pick up on the “funneling” effect of the mountains. I don’t understand the technical details well enough to completely understand his blog.

Maybe someone else here could help out.

A poster on http://www.wxdisco.com/ is reporting both coastal radar stations in NC are out. The Raleigh station reaches down there, but not well.
