If there’s anyone on the coast that needs a place to evac to, I can host a few people up here near Clemson where we shouldn’t get more than TS winds. It’s not luxury accommodations but it’s clean, safe, and free.
Wonder what Parris Island and Beaufort MCAS are doing?
Got family in Nags Head. They scooted out today, but I don’t know if they are going to get hit

Agreed. I was working in Alabama when Hurricane Ivan came ashore. My hotel room door had a note indicating where to go for the hurricane shelter. My work was done. It was almost 8 PM. The airport in Birmingham was already closed for flights, but Hertz could get me a car. My colleague had the van that he drove down from Tennessee. I arranged for Hertz to get me a car to drive drive from Birmingham to Salt Lake City. I departed at 10:30 PM from the airport. It was already raining. I drove to Clarksville, TN and stopped for some sleep. Next leg to Grand Island, NE. Stopped for some sleep. On to SLC...arriving at 8:20 PM at Hertz. 1800 miles in 46 hours door to door (including sleep). Stayed the night in Draper, UT and attended the Crossroads of the West Gun Show in the morning as originally planned.
Joe Bastardi said on Hannity this WILL be the worst (dollar) hurricane in US history. If so, we will see non-stop 24/7 blame Trump through the mid-term election. Women, children and minorities hit hardest.

My wife is dragging me to Asheville on Wednesday so she can watch the World Equestrian Games while I sit in coffee shops and bars and read FreeRepublic. Should be interesting. Any advice for a good watering hole, especially those with good music?
And even more so for coastal NORTH CAROLINA FReepers!!!!
Getting ready to party. They are Marines, afterall.
The "Dirty Side" to me means the North East Quadrant of the storm which is always the strongest quadrant.
North of the eye gets onshore winds which of course brings higher ocean surge. On the south side, an approaching storm blows away from the coast.
I sold my 39 ft sailboat last month and left South Carolina Saturday morning. Sounds like good timing to me as I'm now in southern Illinois.
Highland Brewing
Or, if you enjoy a much more musically oriented space, The Orange Peel.
I spent my honeymoon in September 1989 on St. Thomas. I was there when Hugo hit. When I heard it was coming I thought in would be a good adventure and was pretty excited. Boy, was I wrong. I would never sit through another one if I had the option to get out (which I did not then).
Perfect! Thanks!
Good place in Maggie Valley: Salty Dogs. Bands: Keil Nathan Smith, Michelle Leigh (meow), Third Wheel Band.
If you have time to kill, you may enjoy a tour of the Moog synthesizer headquarters and factory downtown, there’s a sound lab with visiting musicians, you can play around with a theremin yourself too, which is cool.

Should have tagged you.
Thank you.
You guys seem to know a lot about Asheville. We are scheduled to arrive there Wednesday and stay through Sunday. Do you think there is a significant risk being there if this storm hits as they say it will?
