‘We’re going to make sure justice is served,’ Dallas mayor says of Botham Jean

Mayor Mike Rawlings said Saturday that he’s sure justice will be served for Botham Shem Jean.

Jean, 26, was killed in his own apartment on Thursday night by an off-duty, uniformed Dallas Police officer who said she mistook Jean’s apartment for her own when she got off work at about 10 p.m.

Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall said yesterday “at my request, we are in the process of obtaining a warrant based on the circumstances we have now.” She later added the warrant would be for manslaughter.

I don't know the victim, but college students at my church do. Below is an excerpt from a FB post from a friend. FYI: Harding University is a private Christian college located in Searcy, Arkansas.

Harding University 2016 grad Botham Jean was shot and killed in Dallas last night after an off duty police officer allegedly mistakenly walked into his apartment thinking it was hers.

Here is a video of him leading In Christ Alone at the Harding Lectureships in 2014.

Thanks be to God that he lived, that he faithfully served, and that his work will continue on in others. May we all live a life of service to God and others like Bo did.

At a press conference, which you can watch above, Hall said, “My condolences to the Botham Shem Jean family. We want to be and we will be as transparent in this investigation as we can be.”

TRANSLATION: We will tell a court IF forced to and have the Records Sealed.
