One thing I AM certain of. The Antichrist, the Lawless One, the Man of Sin, the Beast, the False Messiah WILL arise in the Last Days.
And he will have some sort of world government system behind him. It will be exceedingly powerful. More dreadful than any seen before. Which is rather extraordinary given what the world had already seen (ex. Nazy Germany, Fascist Italy, Soviet Russia, Communist China, etc.).

Case in point: Twenty years ago we went merrily along believing the FBI, CIA, etc., were the good guys. Never in a million years did we consider they would be the ones actively trying to destroy our country. Lies. Plants. Setting up innocent people. Perhaps taking out certain people. Anything is possible.
