Sadly, unpaid interns is common in NY. When I lived there, the company I worked for had one - I was appalled that she was unpaid. She was OK with the experience. Showed up on time and worked all day.

My office often has an unpaid internship, the interns are enrolled in internship credits. No, they don’t answer phones make or get coffee. They usually are part of a special event team or have a couple of specific projects like running a blog, creating a couple of internal use videos or a newsletter. It gives them a valuable experience for their resume, a letter of recommendation/reference and in most cases a piece for a portfolio.
It’s my understanding that Hillary never pays bills she owes. That’s for little people. And what is someone going to do when they try to get her to pay? They don’t want to end up successfully suicidal.
Yes, I think to say “hire” implies wages. They should say she is “seeking” interns.
