“This funeral is going to last all day.”
I will give credit to McCain for his patriotism and sacrifice, though I intensely disagree with much of his politics and the vindictive treatment of Trump and Palin. But his self planned funeral is so over the top it should never be allowed to be repeated.
Kennedy was assassinated on Friday, November 22, and his services were complete after a State funeral with him buried on Monday, November 25. Three days. Plenty of time for a nation and the world to pay their respects.
Reagan had a State funeral, he died on June 5, 2004 and was buried June 11, 2004 - after initial services in California, then DC, and back to California.
Here we have a failed Presidential candidate having a funeral that is taking longer than either of these actual presidents. McCain died on August 25. He won’t be buried until tomorrow, September 2. All because he planned it that way.
I remember when Nancy Reagan said her final farewell - how hard it was for her to leave his casket. I can’t imagine what it will be like for McCain’s family tomorrow. There needs to be some time for grief, but this is just way too long.
This funeral,and Aretha’s,are PURE theater-——and would make Cecil B DeMille proud.
